Have a good year !

We cleaned our ryokan and decorate a entrance for New Year's season.
For example…Shimekazari, Kagami-mochi etc…

Kagami-mochi are offerings to the god of the New Year. It is believed people who eat them will lead healthy and happy lives in the coming year.

People decorate the entrances of their homes with shimekazari during the New Year's season to ward off evil spirits.
They are made of shimenawa, sacred Shinto rope of rice straw, used to indicate the sacred areas where gods descend.
Shimekazari is a special shimenawa decorated with various auspicious objects such as bitter oranges, ferns and lobsters.
When the New Year's period is over, shimekazari and other New Year's decorations are taken to shrines and burned.

Local food of Kanazawa "Konka Saba" and "Konka Iwashi"

Konka Saba

This is a local food called “Konka Saba”, fermented mackerel, of Ishikawa prefecture.
There is also fermented sardine called “Konka Iwashi”.
Sumiyoshiya Ryokan has purchased “Konka Saba” from it’s specially store called Ikeda Shoten.
Ikeda Shoten’s “Konka Saba” is not so salty but mild which is good for both nibbles of Sake and dinner menu.
